The San Francisco poet Michael McClure gave his first, much acclaimed, public reading alongside Allen Ginsberg in 1955. Half a century later, he remains one of the most dynamic presences in American poetry: ecologist, playwright - author of the sixties succès de scandale 'The Beard' - psychedelic visionary (Peyote Poem, Acid Mementos, Meat Science Essays), inventor, in his sequence 'Ghost Tantras', of 'beast language', & Zen practictioner ('Dharma Devotions, Poems from the Hummingbird Sangha'), he is currently engaged in musical collaborations with The Doors' keyboard player Ray Manzerek & avant garde composer Terry Riley, both of whom (along with Dennis Hopper) will appear in the film.
